Life Drawing Studio

Drawing the human figure from a live model has been at the foundation of most art programs throughout the world and across the centuries.  If you have an interest in portrait painting, character design, comics/manga, game design, illustration, animation, fasion design, anatomical drawing, or just learning to "see" better, this is for you!

Life Drawing Studio at Galveston Arts Center meets for two hours on select Monday evenings (see schedule below.) Live models pose for short "gesture" drawings (or warm-ups) at the beginning of each session, followed by increasingly longer poses of up to 90 minutes. Models may appear in costume, nude, or semi-clothed. The preferences of both models and participants are taken into account regarding pose timing and costuming/clothing.

Artists are encouraged you to bring their own materials and supplies, (please, no photography). Art supplies are also available in our ArtWokrs gift shop on the first floor. Our spacious, well-lit studio is equipped with 8 standing easels--so feel free to bring paints--and 16 adjustable-angle drafting tables.

Life Drawing now meets for 4-week "blocks"

Mondays, 5:30 - 7:30 PM on select dates:
April 24 - May 22 | June 5 - 26 | July 17 - August 7 |
August 28 - September 25 | October 16 - November 6

Fee is $40 per Block
Blocks run for 4 weeks, always beginning the Monday after ArtWalk.
Life Drawing does not meet on US Federal Holidays (Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.) In the event of a holiday, the block continues the following week, and will still include 4 sessions. Please contact us for details about using missed days in your block.

$12 Drop-In rate (pay at the door.)
Please call before dropping in!
The block will be cancelled if there are too few pre-paid participants (and anyone who did pay in advance will then be refunded.)

This is an artist-led activity, not a formal class. Work at your pace and in your preferred medium. Friendly tips and advice are available from the facilitating artist(s) if you are interested.

Seeking new models regularly - all ages, genders, and body-types. Some experience preferred.
